Pickett's Gamecocks

General Pickett on Horseback

Portrait courtesy of Ken Spirduso,
Lynchburg, Virginia

George Pickett was a classic romantic of his time - - - in demeanor, in love and in war. Pickett’s Virginia Gamecock Brigade is dedicated to the memory of that gallant officer, the officers who served in his commands, and the men who fought and died under his leadership.

Pickett’s Virginia Gamecocks, formed in 2003, is a living history group of men, women, and their children. We are a family oriented group that presents all aspects of life during the Southern War for Independence. Our group often merges with Lee’s Lieutenant’s (Al Stone portraying General Robert E. Lee) and Jackson’s Foot Cavalry (Jim Pence portraying General T.J. “Stonewall” Jackson). Our combined group has more than 35 members.

Jim Choate, portrays General George S. Pickett, and is the founder and leader of the brigade. As a professional actor, General Bernard Bee in the film “Gods & Generals,” Jim has more than 30 years of film, stage, and television experience. He is the President of Choate City Casting and a member of Historical Entertainment.

We always are interested in adding new members as officers, enlisted men, or male or female civilian portrayals. We are specifically recruiting African-Americans interested in black Confederate or civilian portrayals.

For information about jining up, call Jim at (540) 854-7585.
