Our Books

Novelist Jack Maples and illustrator/researcher Drew Pallo produce historical fiction about the Southern War for Independence that appeals to a broad audience by:

  • Creating direct story lines that challenge the conventional wisdom
  • Incorporating the most historical accuracy possible
  • Integrating little known facts and incidents within each tale
  • Developing strong characters and relationships
  • Describing battle scenes supported by maps that appeal to historians
  • Bringing the story to a conclusion with a message
  • Making the reading of the story as enjoyable as it is thought provoking

Our current and planned works include:

Reconstructed Yankee, a fictional biography of a black Confederate soldier that focuses on the struggle of a free man of color to overcome racism in 19th century America.

The deMoreau Chronicles, a trilogy of alternative histories, featuring a time traveler who must change the outcome of the Civil War under a variety of different possibilities:

  • Jackson’s Option - A Confederate victory in 1862 (2005)
  • The Hamlin Conspiracy - A three-way war following Lincoln’s assassination before ever becoming President with a baseball in the ending (In production)
  • Final Alternative - Jackson survives Chancellorsville, but no Gettysburg!
